Our history
Eino Helaakoski starts the business
The roots of the company are in Pyhäjoki, where the business started on the earthworks field with the power of one man and one tractor.
The scope expands
The scope of the business expanded in the sixties to bigger eartwork contracts in the areas around Oulu and Finnish Lapland. The equipment selection became more versatile. The first big excavator was purchased in 1967.
The start of lifting
On top of providing earthworks, the firm begun to offer mobile cranes in the areas of Oulu and Finnish Lapland. The first crane, P&H T300 was acquired in 1973. Additionally the amount of employees grew to match the need of the company.
The drastic investment on cranes
The need for mobile cranes grew higher. To keep up with the demand, the first brand new Liebherr-crane was obtained, LTM 1045 (50t). The company operated in a larger area, and significant contracts were in Raahe’s steel factory and Porvoo’s refinery. The mobile crane fleet consisted of 20 cranes.
The scope of operations expanded outside the borders of Finland
In 1993 the company sent seven cranes to a construction site in Russia. In 1995 the company acquired a lifting enterprise from Kuusankoski, and Hekohope Oy was founded. Hekohope Oy has since been merged with E. Helaakoski Oy.
Strengthening the status of West Coast and Southern Finland
The business status was strengthened with two notable acquisitions. In 2006 JA-KO Betoni Oy’s crane business activity was bought, and a depot opened to Kokkola. In 2007 another acquisition followed when in Porvoo a local business’ mobile crane activity was bought, strengthening our position in Southern Finland.
Eastern Finland joins the map
Both Southern and Eastern Finland grew stronger following two business acquisitions (both in 2012). A depot in Lappeenranta was opened.
Strong lifting service provider
Now, we are one of the biggest lifting service providers in Finland operating all throughout the country. In 2022 we are receiving Finland’s first electric mobile cranes.
